ARDUINO project with a pulse sensor
Our Project
Best-and-Worst-Ways-to-Check-Your-Heart-

OUR PROJECT

Death due to cardiovascular disease is causing worldwide death.  To enable constant monitorization of heart rate in individuals that suffer such a disease and reduce uneccesary hospital costs, we propose a heart monitorization system integrated with ThingSpeak IoT platform. A pulsesensor broadcasts the heart rate of the owner. At each checks we can observe if the user is moving or not to see if the heart rate is normal or not thanks to an accelerometer. If the parameters received are abnormal, an alarm is send by message to the doctor/hospital. The collected data is  wirelessly transmitted to ThingSpeak platform, which enables remote monitorization from the web server and also through a custom-designed Android app.

This project uses the SHAHIDEER pulse rate sensor.

SHAHIDEER is a pulse rate sensor module for ARDUINO, which can be easily clipped to a finger or earlope.

Pulse rate sensors work on the principle of photoplhethysmography. They measure the volume of blood through any organ of the body, producing change in the light intensity through that organ.

Accelerometer

Accelerometer

The system includes an accelerometer to identify whether the patient is in resting state or in  activity. Like this the patient’s can have their heart monitored continuously, even if they are not resting. The alarm system will activate taking into account both heart rate and accelerometer data.

ARDUINO and cables

ARDUINO UNO

AND THE CABLES

The pulse rate sensor and accelerometer  transmit their data to the ARDUINO UNO microcontroller. Through the Arduino IDE the heart beat is acquired, as well as whether the patient is in resting condition or not.
